Jorma Taccone, known for his comedic portrayal of Adolf Hitler (aka Kung Fuhrer) in *Kung Fury*, recently shared his frustration over the unexpected cancellation of the highly anticipated sequel. As Taccone explained to Comicbook.com, the situation is particularly disappointing because the film featured a fight scene with none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger, the legendary action megastar. Taccone lamented the film’s stalled release, which also included Michael Fassbender reprising his role as Colt Magnum.
“I truly hope that it comes to fruition and it gets out of legal jeopardy,” Taccone said, referring to the sequel’s uncertain future. He continued, “The 10-minute promo piece that I saw, I was like, ‘At the very least, this is an instantaneous cult classic. This is so special. It is so funny and off the rails.’ I mean, Fassbender’s hilarious in it. I get to fight Arnold Schwarzenegger. That it doesn’t exist is so heartbreaking to me. It’s really like a crime.”
Taccone’s disappointment is understandable, given the opportunity to share the screen with Schwarzenegger, a Hollywood legend whose presence promised to elevate the film’s appeal. Schwarzenegger, who played the American President in *Kung Fury 2*, expressed similar excitement about being part of the project.
“I met David Sandberg four years ago,” Schwarzenegger revealed on Reddit, referencing the film’s director. “Right after I saw the original *Kung Fury*. I absolutely loved it and could not stop laughing, so I had to meet him. Now we are finally in Munich shooting… I just had to share with you guys because I’m so proud of him for making his hilarious vision into a reality.”
Schwarzenegger lauded Sandberg for his creativity and persistence, encouraging other aspiring filmmakers to take note of his perseverance in bringing *Kung Fury* to life. However, despite this creative energy and star power, the sequel remains mired in legal complications, preventing its release and leaving Taccone, Schwarzenegger, and fans worldwide disheartened.
Set in the ’80s Miami, the original *Kung Fury* followed the titular hero and his team, the Thundercops, a group of police officers from various historical periods, in their battle against the main villain, Kung Fuhrer. The sequel, featuring Schwarzenegger as the American President, was intended to continue this wild, action-packed narrative. For now, the sequel remains trapped in limbo, leaving audiences hoping for a resolution that will allow this cult classic to shine once more.
